These days we are surrounded by genetically modified organisms, we are seduced by them in the media, we see them in the grocery stores, eat them in restaurants and we are surrounded by them when with friends and family but the main reason being no one is aware of what GMOs are or where they are found .In the last few years there has been more coverage and media speculating Monsanto and their mission. Monsanto being the leader in GMO reproduction. GMOs have started to be banned in many countries due to their unknown health risk factors, most of Europe does not use pesticides or consume genetically modified organisms. This being said, it has been and is being studied that there is a belief of a link between cancer and GMOs. It is understood that we should not be eating or consuming anything that has been altered from its original natural ways. If you think about everything you eat in a day, stop and think what is natural and what isn't. For example if I ate yogurt and banana for breakfast, a tuna sandwich for lunch and rice, chicken breast and kale for dinner, what percentage of my meal is organic? This is where it gets disturbing. If you break down every meal, everything you ate has been altered presuming it is not organic, all the vegetables or fruits from this days meals would of had genetically modified seeds, to insure that crops grow bigger and faster than usual so that the demand is met and farmers and companies can replenish crops faster. Breads and rice are altered by Monsantos seeds, seeing as their main modifications are in corn, sugar, soy and canola. Lastly any protein you eat whether it be fish or beef has been altered. You are what you eat, so just like humans if an animal is being fed corn that is genetically modified than the animal is being unknowing pump with modifications just like the seeds to grow bigger and faster. Meats taste less natural and fish changes in colour and texture. Then this brings this idea even further, if a chicken is being fed corn and soy based pellets and producing eggs , not only is a human ingested the GMOs from the chicken, but it is also being passed down in their eggs. Cows transfer everything through their milk as well as their meat, however they are also notoriously known for being pumped with added hormones which have been linked to an obscene amount of people these days with lactose intolerance or intolerances to other foods. This seems like a never ending circle of GMOs right? Now let's take this idea further, the cow eats GMO food, transferring the hormones and disgusting unnatural substances through their milk, then a new mother who is breastfeeding their child is passing down the hormones and modified substances down to their child. This is a vicious cycle that can only be stopped once we choose not to keep living like this. There are so many companies that hide behind the marketing of their products, if you think about it, most companies use canola, rice, corn and soy in their products. Here are a list of some companies you probably never imagined using GMOs :

-Kraft

-Du Pont

-Coca-cola

-Hershey

-Pepsico

-Nestle

-Kellogg

-Libby's

-Heinz

-Crisco

- Lays

-Quaker

-Betty Crocker

-Pillsbury

-Eggo

-Yoplait

Now the question everyone asks... isn't eating organic and living an organic lifestyle more expensive? Let's look at it this way, compare what you would normally buy in a store on a regular basis to a natural organic based grocery store. At the end of the day the transaction might have a 10-20 $ difference , which honestly speaking if we are talking about a better lifestyle makes total sense.Another way to compare is if you have a cold, you will most likely rush to a pharmacy and buy yourself a cold/flu medication ranging from 10-15 $ for a few days worth of artificial relief. If you replace the chemicals given in those medications by natural supplements such as vitamins and minerals, you will recover quicker, without any side effects and disgusting chemicals in your body. And ironically enough the price is pretty much the same.

I can understand how all this information seems like a lot to take it, and their is SO much more I would love to discuss and could rant on and on about, however I will let you do the rest on your own seeing as the decision to change the way you live is ultimately yours alone. If you have any questions I would love to answer them so please feel free to contact me at rusticnutrition@outlook.ca

Have a great evening everyone, I hope this post brought you some insight.
